This Local Anaesthesia for Podiatrists update course provides an evidence-based, clinically focused refresher aligned with current UK professional standards and contemporary practice. Designed for HCPC-registered podiatrists, the programme consolidates core knowledge while integrating recent guidance, pharmacological updates, and risk-management principles relevant to modern practice.
The course revisits foundational sciences, including peripheral nerve anatomy of the foot and ankle, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of commonly used local anaesthetic agents, safe maximum dosage calculations, and the role of vasoconstrictors. Emphasis is placed on patient assessment, consent, documentation, and working to the top of our professional licence.
By the end of the course, participants will be updated on the safe, confident, and legally compliant administration of local anaesthesia within the podiatric scope of practice, supported by reflective discussion and competency-based assessment. This update ensures practitioners remain clinically current, professionally accountable, and prepared to deliver high-quality patient-centred care in both NHS and independent settings.
