Skin Surgery for Podiatrists

Course Info

The course provides training in the following skill sets in ADULT patients:

•Shave and punch biopsies
•Simple skin excisions
•Incisional nail procedures
•Removal of simple foreign bodies
 
The learning outcomes outlined are designed to enable Podiatrists to become competent and confident in performing minor skin surgery for their patients. At the end of training, the candidate MUST have demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge related to the application of local anaesthesia, performance of skin surgery and the management of outcomes and complications.
  

Dates for 2026

Part a – pre-reading (October)

Part b – three-day theory session (Zoom 6-7-8 November 2026) with post Part B exam date 21.11.26.

Part c – two-day practical session (Northampton, 21-22 November 2026)

Part d – cadaver dissection (Coventry, 18 December 2026)

Part e – OSCE (Northampton, 19 December 2026)

Part f – portfolio (December 2026 to June 2027)

10. Surgical procedure nails: incisional techniques
11. Histology: specimen handling and diagnosis

13. Wound management and post-procedure aftercare
14. Complications and sequela
15. Outcomes
