How to Refer

This page explains how to refer a patient to me for assessment and treatment of foot and ankle problems. Referrals are welcome from patients (self-funding), GPs, podiatrists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.

Self-funding patients

Some patients choose to fund their own care. Self-funding referrals can be made by post, telephone, or email.

What happens first

It is necessary to fully assess your symptoms and discuss diagnosis and treatment options before any procedure is undertaken. The initial consultation is used to:

Virtual consultations

irtual consultations are available for patients who would prefer a quicker initial discussion or who live outside Northamptonshire. 

If surgery is recommended

Surgical procedures are undertaken as day-case surgery under local or general anaesthetic. If surgery is indicated, the hospital will provide a fixed-price package for self-funding patients based on the procedure required and your choice of anaesthesia.

Insured patients

Ian Reilly is registered with most major insurance providers. You are advised to confirm your level of cover with your insurer before your first appointment, including any excesses and whether a referral is required.

A GP referral is usually required for patients covered by a health insurance scheme.

If your GP refers you under the NHS Choose and Book scheme, you may be seen at no cost.
